The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering a new era — one that seems to be folding its former Netflix heroes back into the fold. With “Daredevil: Born Again” officially bringing Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin into the spotlight, fans are asking one burning question: could Jessica Jones be next?

The Netflix Legacy Finds New Life in the MCU

When “Jessica Jones” premiered on Netflix in 2015, it broke the mold for superhero storytelling. Krysten Ritter’s portrayal of the hard-drinking, no-nonsense private investigator struck a chord with viewers who wanted something darker and more grounded than the typical Marvel fare. Alongside Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher, the series formed a gritty corner of the Marvel universe that felt distinct from the high-flying Avengers saga.

However, when the Netflix-Marvel partnership ended in 2019, it seemed that chapter had closed for good. The characters were left in limbo as the rights reverted to Marvel Studios, and fans wondered if they’d ever see their favorite street-level heroes again. Fast-forward to 2025, and that question is suddenly relevant again.

Daredevil’s Return Could Pave the Way for Jessica Jones

With “Daredevil: Born Again” on the horizon, Marvel Studios is signaling a clear willingness to reincorporate the Netflix heroes into the MCU proper. Charlie Cox’s Daredevil already made cameos in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law“, while D’Onofrio’s Kingpin resurfaced in “Hawkeye” and “Echo. The next logical step would be to bring back other Defenders — and Jessica Jones tops that list.

Krysten Ritter has been vocal about her love for the role and has expressed interest in returning if given the chance. Set photos and casting rumors over the past year have even hinted that she could make a surprise appearance in “Daredevil: Born Again”, possibly as an ally to Matt Murdock or a key investigator in a larger conspiracy. Marvel has not confirmed these reports, but the timing feels right.

In an interview with Phase Hero, “Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum teased an imminent return for Ritter’s Jessica Jones beyond just Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. When asked by host Brandon Davis about a potential Jessica Jones: Born Again, Winderbaum let slip, ‘[It’s coming] maybe sooner than you think:'”

In an article on Forbes, “Back in 2024, Winderbaum was asked which character he’d want to see return to the MCU, and said plainly, Jessica Jones.” If “Born Again” succeeds in reintroducing Daredevil to a mainstream audience, Marvel may have the perfect opportunity to reintroduce Jessica Jones in a way that honors her Netflix roots while updating her story for the MCU’s current tone.

How Jessica Jones Could Fit Into the MCU Now

The MCU has expanded dramatically since “Jessica Jones” ended. With new street-level threats emerging in “Echo” and “Captain America: Brave New World“, the stage is set for more grounded heroes who deal with crime, corruption, and moral complexity rather than cosmic villains. Jessica’s skill set — detective work, superhuman strength, and a keen sense for human flaws — makes her an ideal fit for this new wave of urban storytelling.

Moreover, Marvel’s renewed focus on character-driven narratives could give Jessica room to shine in a way that feels natural. Imagine her working alongside Matt Murdock in Hell’s Kitchen, helping expose corruption that connects to Kingpin or even a larger government conspiracy. Alternatively, she could reestablish Alias Investigations and find herself drawn into the orbit of new heroes like Echo or Spider-Man.

A series or film appearance could also explore how Jessica’s trauma and cynicism evolve in a world now populated by gods and multiversal chaos — a fascinating contrast to her grounded perspective.

A Return Fans Are Ready For

Marvel Studios has learned that nostalgia and continuity are powerful tools when used well. The return of characters like Daredevil and Kingpin has been met with enthusiasm from fans craving a return to the raw, character-focused tone of the Netflix series. Bringing back Jessica Jones would complete that legacy, offering a blend of noir detective storytelling and psychological depth that the MCU currently lacks.

While nothing is confirmed, the door is clearly open. If “Daredevil: Born Again” proves successful, Jessica Jones’ return could be more than just wishful thinking — it could be the next step in Marvel’s plan to rebuild its street-level universe from the ground up.

And when she does come back, one thing’s certain: Hell’s Kitchen will never be the same.
