Long-standing celebrity couples who have never gotten married

Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan's relationship has been lowkey for years, but in 2016, the Ruby Sparks actor said an official ceremony wasn't "high on my list." Zoe continued, saying neither of them are "religious," but living life with Paul has been "really nice."

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together since the early '80s; however, they never married. But according to the long-standing couple, they don't need it. “It’s not about the marriage,” Hawn said. “It’s about the people and the relationship and the will to stay together.

Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have a beautiful relationship, but they are not interested in getting married. In a previous interview, Taylor revealed that marriage doesn't "mean to us what it means to a lot of people."

Despite their decade-long relationship, Courtney Cox and Johnny McDaid are not legally married. However, Cox revealed that she's "married in my heart." When asked about an official ceremony, she said that she and McDaid have "one every morning when we look at each other."

Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale's long-standing relationship has many people talking. During a 2021 interview, Cannavale snapped after being asked about the pair's plans for an official wedding. "I don’t know," he said before adding, "I don’t know why people care. Why do people give a sh*t?"

Oprah and her partner, Stedman, have been together since the '80s, and according to the talk show host, they're perfectly fine with never marrying. “Both he and I now say, ‘If we had married, we would not be together,'” she adds. “No question about it — we would not stay married because of what that would have meant to him, and I would have had my own ideas about it.”

Maya Rudolph has been in a committed relationship with her partner, Paul Thomas Anderson, since 2001. During an interview with The New York Times, the Saturday Night Live staple revealed that she's been calling the filmmaker her husband since the birth of their child. 

"People know what that means. It means he's the father of my child, and I live with him, and we are a couple, and we are not going anywhere," she said.

When Shakira and Gerard were together, the "Beautiful Liar" singer said she wanted to maintain "girlfriend" status forever. "Marriage scares the sh-t out of me," she said.

This iconic couple was together for over a decade, and during their relationship, many people asked about their status as a couple. In 2014, Graham joked about marriage with Ellen. 

“I feel like close to five years in Hollywood; it’s like, aren’t we married already, really?”

Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell have been madly in love since 2007. They have never married and don't have kids, either.

According to People, Hahn and Ryder met in 2010 and have been together ever since. "He’s so great. He really is. I’m really lucky," Ryder told Harper's Bazaar in July 2024.

Enrique and his partner, Anna, began their relationship in 2001. Since then, many have wondered whether the pair would walk down the aisle. "I've never really thought marriage would make a difference," Enrique told Parade. "Maybe it's because I come from divorced parents, but I don't think you love somebody more because of a piece of paper. Nowadays, it's not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you're a good parent, period."

Jane Fallon revealed that she and her long-time partner, Ricky Gervais, haven't married because neither have "fussed" about it yet. "But there’s no point in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God."

Vin Diesel has never had trouble finding a partner; however, he wants to take his time before getting hitched. "It took a couple [of] years after [filming the Pacifier] to find the right person," he told Parade. He's been with his partner, Paloma Jiménez, since 2007, and they share three children.

For Wallace Shawn and his partner, Deborah Eisenberg, the actor revealed there are "associations with marriage that neither" of them like about marriage. “'My wife,' I don’t particularly care for that – and I don’t want anybody saying, 'This is my husband.' It has aspects of bringing society into your relationship where it's nobody’s business, really."

It appears that fashion designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough have had enough of people asking questions about their marital status. During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, the couple, who began dating during their junior year at Parsons School of Design, rolled their eyes when asked if a wedding was in their future. "No comment," they said.

When they were together, Krysten Ritter said marrying Adam Granduciel wasn't "my thing." She continued: "I just don't know if I'm the type. Marriage seems scary to me."

Sandra Bernhard previously told Edge that she and her partner weren't married but rather "domestic partners." Her reasoning, however, made perfect sense. "It is all based on finances for us and me. And so far, it doesn't make sense."
