Country music singer Spencer Hatcher announced the death of his mother, Holly, 62, on Instagram after a fatal home invasion. He also announced the cancellation of his upcoming shows.

"It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that — due to a monumental loss in our family — I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12),” Spencer wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, August 6. “I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy at this time."

According to US Weekly, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office revealed police responded to an emergency call on August 3, about a home invasion with an armed intruder.

When police arrived, they located Holly's husband, Michael Hatcher, "suffering from visible injuries sustained during the home invasion and subsequent altercation with an armed intruder." They also found another dead male, Kevin Walker, 41, located in the driveway.

They later entered the home where they found Holly dead from fatal knife wounds. In a press release, the details state that the offender entered the home with a large knife and stabbed Holly. The attacker then went after the caller, Michael, with the knife, and an altercation ensued.

"The altercation continued outside the residence, and the caller was able to retrieve a handgun from his vehicle and fire a single shot, which stopped the attack and killed the offender," said police.

In a press conference on August 7, Spencer called his mother's death a "highly unusual event" and only coming forward with the facts they know.

"There is no way for you to know the trauma and the pain and the unanswered questions that I have had … about this terrible tragedy,” shared Michael, holding back tears with visible injuries to his right arm. "Each of you have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and your support to all of us. For that, I thank you so much."
