Evan Rachel Wood confirms she "not asked to come back" for "Practical Magic 2"

Witchy '90s cult favorite "Practical Magic" is getting a legacy sequel and  "Practical Magic 2" will see Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as the Owens sisters, two witches on the go. The movie has a release date of September 18, 2026, and recently it was announced that Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are returning as well to play the aunts who teach the Owens girls witchcraft. Well, we guess the gang's all here...or not.

Evidently, Evan Rachel Wood will not be appearing in "Practical Magic 2."

In "Practical Magic," Wood played Kylie, the eldest daughter of Bullock's character. However, Wood took to Instagram Stories to relay some news in the wake of the Channing and Wiest news.

I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the "Practical Magic: sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.

It's notable, and interesting, that if what Wood is saying is accurate, they are recasting Kylie. If the character simply weren't in the script, that would be one thing. If Wood had been a child actor who didn't really make the move to adult acting, that would also be a reasonable explanation for the exclusion. Wood has been working steadily, though, including playing Madonna in the Weird Al movie, so somebody else being cast in the role is unexpected.

Granted, Bullock and Kidman returning is the draw for "Practical Magic 2." Still, the lack of Wood will impact some people. Including, apparently Wood herself.
