Pack your bags, horror-comedy fans, because Netflix is opening the doors to the Haunted Hotel on September 19th! The streaming giant just dropped the first trailer for this bone-chillingly hilarious series, and trust us, it’s giving haunted house vibes with a heavy dose of sarcastic sibling banter.

What Is Haunted Hotel?

Created by Rick & Morty story editor Matt Roller (Community, Krapopolis), this 10-episode, 2D-animated show blends horror, humor, and family dysfunction in all the best ways. Think mismatched ghostly roommates meet a single mom just trying to keep her hotel running without losing her mind. Oh, and did we mention her estranged brother is one of the ghosts? Classic.

Netflix teases it as “a single mother of two struggles to manage a haunted hotel with the help of her late, estranged brother, who believes the undead guests have some surprisingly solid business advice.” The premise alone is enough to make you hit that “Remind Me” button.

Who’s Behind the Screams (and the Laughs)?

Matt Roller leads the charge as series creator and executive producer. He’s joined by some heavy hitters, including Rick & Morty alums Dan Harmon and Steve Levy, plus Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Chris McKenna. Add in the Emmy-winning studio Titmouse (Big Mouth, The Legend of Vox Machina), and you’ve got a dream team ensuring that Haunted Hotel is equal parts spooky and side-splitting.

Erica Hayes, known for her work on Rick & Morty and Carol & the End of the World, serves as supervising director. Translation? This show is about to serve up top-tier visuals and razor-sharp laughs.

The Cast & Characters

The voice talent in Haunted Hotel is chef’s kiss perfect.

  • Will Forte voices Nathan, the snarky ghost-brother with way too many opinions.
  • Eliza Coupe takes on Katherine, the mom trying to juggle ghosts, two kids, and a spiraling business.
  • Skyler Gisondo and Natalie Palamides round out the family as Katherine’s kids, likely adding a fresh generation of sarcasm and chaos.
  • Jimmi Simpson plays Abaddon, a ghastly specter you’ll love to hate.

If you thought your weird Airbnb host was bad, wait until you meet these hotel residents.

Why Haunted Hotel Deserves Your Watchlist

Netflix’s track record for animated hits (BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth) gives the show promising prospects. This one comes packed with absurd humor, relatable family drama, and just enough eerie chills to make it perfect for the Halloween season.

Plus, it’s high time horror got a comedic upgrade. Instead of running from the monster, why not argue with it over whose shift it is to clean up the bloodstains? Whether you’re a horror buff or just someone looking for a laugh, this animated comedy seems poised to deliver both in spook-tacular fashion.

Final Thoughts (and Beyond the Blender)

Series creator Matt Roller described Haunted Hotel as a show for “fans of comedy, horror, cults, monsters with tentacles, monsters without tentacles, werewolves, and blenders.” If that lineup doesn’t intrigue you, we’re not sure what will.

Mark your calendars for September 19th and get ready to check into the hilariously haunted Undervale Hotel. Just don’t expect a mint on your pillow.
