Jordan Peele’s name is synonymous with horror. Now the director has ranked his favourite horror movies of all time.
Appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Peele was issued a challenge: categorize six iconic horror movies on a scale. However, there’s a catch. The director of Get Out and Nope didn’t know which films were coming, so effectively had to rank them blind.
First was The Exorcist, with Peele placing it at number two. “It’s widely regarded as the greatest horror film of all time, but I’m excited to see what one could be.” Peele ranked his own movie, Get Out, number five.
First place went to A Nightmare On Elm Street, with Peele saying, “When I was a kid I couldn't see the poster for this movie without getting nightmares.”
You can see a through-line with Peele’s work, especially with regards to the fusion of horror and black comedy. “The thing about Freddy that’s so chilling to me is that he’s funny. He was always cracking a joke and killing them with a pun.” See Peele’s full interview, as well as his horror film ranking, below.
