Letitia Wright hospitalized after 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' stunt resulted in 'minor injuries'

Letitia Wright is recovering from a stunt rig accident, according to Variety.

"Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," an unnamed Marvel spokesperson told the publication Wednesday (Aug. 25). "She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon."

Entertainment Weekly then relayed that the 27-year-old actress was released from the hospital.

Variety additionally noted: "The film shoot was happening overnight in Boston, while the production for the Black Panther sequel is based in Atlanta. There is currently no impact to the movie’s shooting schedule," which began in June.

Black Panther made its unprecedented debut in 2018, ultimately shattering global box office records and earning seven Oscar nominations (and winning three). Wright played Shuri—and is obviously reprising for the sequel—T'Challa's younger sister and renowned technological genius. T'Challa was portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman, who died last August at 43 years old after a very private four-year battle with colon cancer.

"So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda," Marvel's Kevin Feige told Deadline last December. "Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa."

"Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda," he continued. "There’s also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well."

In the three-plus years since Black Panther's premiere, Wright has played Shuri in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
