Mark Ronson will soon release his new memoir, Night People: How to Be a DJ in ’90s New York City. Set for release on September 25, 2025, the book chronicles Ronson’s formative years as a New York City DJ.  Additionally, it details the 9-time Grammy winner’s journey after relocating from London, to becoming a key figure in NYC’s vibrant club and hip-hop scene. Ronson describes the memoir as a “love letter to a vanished era”. He also describes it as how he shaped his identity and future career.  Ultimately, Night People celebrates the art of DJing, 1990s NYC energy,  and the  wonderful characters who became his second family. The narrative is structured around the venues that defined his experience.

Mark Ronson was determined to shine

After a lukewarm reception of his debut album, Here Comes the Fuzz (2003), Ronson’s career gained significant momentum in 2006 with his production work on Amy Winehouse’s hit album Back to Black.  The album’s lead hit single “Rehab” won both Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. The album also earned Ronson a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year.  In 2014, Ronson made one of his biggest moves, achieving nationwide success with the Grammy winning single “Uptown Funk,” featuring Bruno Mars. Spending 14 consecutive weeks atop the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, the upbeat, party anthem became one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Mark Ronson doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon

Ronson’s winning streak continued in 2018.  For the film A Star Is Born, he co-wrote the emotional ballad “Shallow”.  Performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the song earned Ronson multiple accolades including an Academy Award for Best Original Song.  In 2023, Ronson served as lead and executive producer for the Barbie soundtrack. The album featured several songs composed and co-written by Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.  The album went on to receive multiple accolades including Song of the Year at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

Currently, Ronson is a patron of the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Additionally, he has worked with the End the Silence campaign, and Turnaround Arts to support youth through music and arts education. Can’t wait until September? Night People can be pre-ordered now on Ronson’s official website.
