Break out the shawarma, because filming for Avengers Doomsday has officially wrapped. That’s right, the next universe-ending, wallet-draining epic from Marvel Studios has finished principal photography. While we’re still over a year away from its release, crew members have taken to social media to confirm the wrap, which means the movie now heads into the loving, tender embrace of post-production.
So, let the rampant speculation and trailer-breakdown videos commence! This is the moment we all live for, isn’t it? The brief period of calm before the storm of marketing, leaks, and fan theories that will inevitably consume the internet for the next 14 months. So, What’s the Big Deal with Avengers Doomsday?
If you’ve been living under a rock (or maybe just enjoying a life outside the MCU), Avengers Doomsday is shaping up to be the next major crossover event. This next big team-up movie kind of makes Endgame look like a casual Friday get-together. The film is set to unite the remaining Avengers, the Wakandans, the recently acquired Fantastic Four, and even the X-Men.
After an intense five-month shoot spanning locations in England and Bahrain, the team now has 14 months for post-production. Marvel calls this a “standard timeline” for an Avengers film, which is their way of saying they need every single second to render the thousands of CGI explosions and alien landscapes. It also gives them plenty of time for the inevitable reshoots, where they’ll probably add another ten surprise cameos just for fun.
Let’s be real, the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday reads less like a movie roster and more like a phone book for every working actor in Hollywood. We’ve got the usual suspects: Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier. But the list keeps going. Joining them are heroes from across the MCU, including the Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch).
Joining them will also be The New Avengers, David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and a whole host of X-Men. We’re talking Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Channing Tatum, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammar, and even Alan Cumming reprising his role as Nightcrawler.
The Russo brothers teased on GamesRadar that Avengers Doomsday is ”bigger than anything we have ever done. We are bringing together so many of your favorite heroes to face one of the greatest threats to the MCU.” After filming wrapped, fans got their first at confirmed heroes costumes, plus a new cast member as Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.
The Russo brothers dropped another tease recently on Instagram with the caption, “Doomsday is Coming.” The set photo was a chalkboard with equations that can’t be read since it was a blurry photo. Most Marvel fans theorized that its the same chalkboard used in Fantastic Four: First Steps. Avengers Doomsday is the first of a two-part finale, with its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled to hit theaters in December 2027. So, get comfortable. We’re in this for the long haul. Again.
