"Paul Quits the Beatles!" the headline of The Daily Mirror read in its April 10, 1970, edition, in a font size that took over nearly half of the page. In truth, there has rarely been a band as lionized and beloved as The Beatles, both during their run and in the decades that followed. But after notable tensions in the group, it was McCartney who left, dropping his first solo album less than a month before the Beatles' final effort, "Let It Be," was released. A narrative started about how John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono was the impetus for the band's dissolution, but it was McCartney's decision to leave first and foremost.
Of course, people have left bands for a variety of reasons, whether it be creative differences, wanting to branch out on their own or because their personal lives got in the way of the music. No matter the reason, here is our list of shocking departures that changed the course of pop music itself. (Note: We did our best to distinguish quitting from being fired from a band, as that's a list for another day.)

Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, isn’t ready to hang up his lightsaber yet. While he will be returning in Ahsoka Season 2, he discussed some other possibilities for the character at Fan Expo Boston, many of which sound amazing. Hayden Christensen Wants to Do More with Anakin According to Cosmic Book News, Christensen was at Fan Expo Boston, where he was asked if he would want to play Anakin again after Ahsoka Season 2. He replied, “If the powers that be decide that’s something that they want to see, I would be there in a heartbeat.” He mentioned that he would love to go back to the Clone Wars era with co-star Ewan McGregor, who memorably played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy. “I think there are some fun stories there to tell,” he stated. “And if it meant I got to swing a lightsaber with Ewan again, that would be amazing.” How About a Darth Vader Series? Another idea Hayden Christensen had was for a Darth Vader Disney+ series that takes place after Revenge of the Sith. He said, “I think there’s some good, meaty stuff there to explore still. If the powers that be decided a Vader spin-off is something they want to see, I’d be there in a heartbeat. 100%. I would love to. It would be amazing to keep exploring this character in both eras.” Indeed, a Vader series that takes place shortly after Revenge of the Sith would have plenty of potential. Vader would have to physically and mentally adjust to the breather suit, along with his new life serving the dark side. In addition, his grief from losing Padme would be raw and fresh. It could reveal all sorts of layers in his character and make for a genuinely heartbreaking story. Disney might want to listen to Hayden Christensen and consider making a series like this, particularly while Ian McDiarmid is still alive and able to play the Emperor. Did Hayden Christensen Like Playing Anakin Skywalker? As his Fan Expo Boston appearance shows, he loves being Anakin. In addition to his upcoming return for Ahsoka Season 2, he already made an appearance as Anakin’s ghost in Ahsoka Season 1. He also played both Anakin and Vader in the Disney+ miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even though he used to receive backlash from fans, by now the fanbase has warmed up to him. He gave a special introduction for the Revenge of the Sith theatrical rerelease earlier this year, and seeing him felt like seeing an old friend again. Here’s hoping he gets to don his Jedi robes or his Vader suit again.
The Dallas Cowboys are finishing up their business trip to Oxnard, California, with their final practice on Wednesday. On Thursday, the team will travel back to Dallas in preparation for meeting the Baltimore Ravens this Saturday in their second preseason game. The team was desperate to find some help in the backfield in their first preseason game with the Los Angeles Rams. The unit has been ravaged by injury. It looks like that could be the same issue for Saturday's game, too. Rookie running back Jaydon Blue missed practice again on Wednesday. Earlier in camp, Blue suffered a bruised ankle, which has the coaching staff being extra cautious for the rookie. Blue, along with Miles Sanders, both missed the team's first preseason game, so the franchise brought in Malik Davis, who had quite an impressive preseason debut against the Rams. The Cowboys are handling Blue's health correctly, but it is unfortunate the rookie has yet to make his debut on the field. In last week's game against the Rams, it was Davis and Phil Mafah who carried most of the load in the backfield. Although the team did not have a running play for the entirety of the first quarter. Getting healthy for September is far more important than pushing the limits for August. —
The Las Vegas Raiders are set to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in their second preseason game. The game will take place at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders are looking to come out and play a good game, especially with the first team offense. Raiders head coach Pete Carroll let it be known that the Raiders' starters will be playing in this game. The team's starters did not have a good outing in their first preseason game. The Silver and Black also released their second depth chart of 2025 this week. For the quarterback position, it is not a secret that Geno Smith is the starting quarterback. Aidan O'Connell is slated in as QB2, and Cam Miller is QB3. At the running back position, rookie Ashton Jeanty is the starter. Followed by Zamir White or Raheem Mostert as the No. 2 back. Chris Collier is the No. 3 running back. And Sincere McCormick and Dylan Laube are fourth on the depth chart. The starting wide receivers are Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Dont'e Thornton Jr. At tight end Brock Bowers is TE1 and Michael Mayer is second-team. On the offensive line, it is Jordan Meredith at center, Kolton Miller at left tackle, Dylan Parham at left guard, DJ Glaze at right tackle, and Jackson Powers-Johnson or Alex Cappa at right guard. The right guard position is where the battle is coming from. For the defense, Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce are the starters at the defensive end positions. Adam Butler and Jonah Laulu are your starting defensive tackles. Your linebackers are Germaine Pratt, Elandon Roberts, and Devin White. In the secondary, the Raiders have three cornerbacks listed as starters. Darnay Holmes, Darien Porter, and Eric Stokes. At the safety position, the Raiders' starters are Isaiah Pola-Mao and Jeremy Chinn. The Raiders want to see what they have with their starting players on both sides of the ball. That chemistry is still getting built, and that is why you are going to see the starters play this week. The Raiders still have a lot to figure out for their starters and the depth pieces they have on the roster. It is going to be interesting to see which players play better this week and which players take the leap and show flashes. The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly grew "fed up with" George Pickens before they traded the mercurial wide receiver to the Dallas Cowboys in May. While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, first-year Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that Pickens has been nothing but a model employee over his first several months with the organization. "From the time we got George and he came into my office, he made it clear that he wants to be coached," Schottenheimer said, Sports Illustrated's Tyler Reed shared. "He wants to be a great player. He told me to 'lean into me, be tough on me.' He’s been nothing but incredible in terms of the way he’s worked and communicated with us." Per the Cowboys' website, Pickens has been responsible for multiple highlight-reel plays during training camp. That's hardly surprising, as the 2022 second-round draft pick flashed all kinds of physical talent across his three seasons with the Steelers. That said, Pickens also developed a reputation during his Pittsburgh tenure with his emotional outbursts during games and for looking displeased over a lack of targets while on the sidelines. Additionally, he allegedly was guilty of a "litany of violations," such as showing up late for Pittsburgh's Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs last season. It's no secret that Schottenheimer and Co. hope that having No. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb as a teammate will help keep Pickens on his best behavior through the upcoming season. On Tuesday, Schottenheimer said that "the relationship [Pickens] has with CeeDee is special." Pickens has many reasons to want to excel while with the Cowboys. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and is not expected to receive an extension before the season begins. Meanwhile, DraftKings Sportsbook had Dallas at +180 betting odds to make the playoffs this season as of Wednesday morning. Pickens will get his first real opportunity to show the Steelers made a mistake by letting him go with a prime-time matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4.
