"The Cat in the Hat" is one of the canonical Dr. Seuss books, but when they tried to adapt it for the big screen, this Lovecraftian nightmare ensued:
When your star is legally obligated to appear in your movie to settle a contractual dispute, it's not a good starting point. Also, this was when they finally learned the lesson that live-action adaptations of Dr. Seuss tend not to work out well. So now, in 2025, there's a new "Cat in the Hat" adaptation, and it's wisely fully animated.
Well, it looks way better than the Mike Myers movie, both aesthetically and in content. Bill Hader is always a game voice actor and should be compelling enough to push the story forward. Does it look good? That would a stretch. It seems like it will be a perfectly-okay animated movie aimed toward children. It does, at least from the trailer, seem like "The Cat in the Hat" will be tolerable for the adult audience.
"The Cat in the Hat" will be released February 27, 2026. When you feel trapped in your home with your kids after a long winter, this will get you all out of the house at least.
