Roku might revive 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' after NBC cancellation

Encore!

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is "nearing a deal" with Roku for a "two-hour wrap-up movie" to stream around the holidays, according to TVLine.

"We hear if the pic ... performs well, Roku could potentially order additional episodes," TVLine relayed. "New deals with the primary cast, led by Jane Levy, are currently being hammered out."

Skylar Astin acknowledged the news:

Zoey's was canceled after two seasons by NBC, as reported by Variety on June 9:

According to sources, there had been talks about moving the musical dramedy series to streaming service Peacock for a third season, but that move ultimately did not come together. According to a spokesperson for Lionsgate Television, which co-produces the series, there are plans to shop it to other outlets.

“In a world where finding loyal and passionate audiences is never easy, we believe there must be a home for this great, award-winning show with a passionate and dedicated following,” the spokesperson said.

Show creator Austin Winsberg echoed that sentiment:

Roku appears to be that home.

Debuting in January 2020, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist followed Zoey (Jane Levy) as she discovered she had the unique ability to hear people's "innermost thoughts" in the form of songs.

By the second season finale, which aired May 16, Zoey and Max (Astin) finally reciprocated romantic feelings, and Max realized he could now hear people's thoughts, too. (Winsberg declined to confirm whether this meant Max and Zoey both had powers or Zoey transferred her power to Max in this interview.)

Zoey's also starred Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Peter Gallagher, Andrew Leeds, Mary Steenburgen, Kapil Talwalkar, Michael Thomas Grant and more.
