Ever since the release of season one of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi‘, fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of a second season. While Lucasfilm was initially quiet about the possibility, recent comments from Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have stirred speculation. For Christensen specifically, returning as Anakin Skywalker would be another chance to revisit his iconic prequel-era role.
Both McGregor and Christensen have expressed enthusiasm about continuing the story between their characters in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe. Now, in a new interview, Christensen has offered further insight into his hopes for a potential season two. With the characters’ complex history, there is clearly potential for compelling new storylines.
In an interview with Variety, Christensen looked back fondly on working with McGregor during filming. “The first time I met Ewan was in Australia,” he said. “Right away I knew that I was standing in front of a friend.” Christensen noted McGregor’s guidance, “He really took me under his wing. It’s easy to get caught up in the technicalities of making those films. But he always just brought it back to the emotional aspect.” Clearly, their on-set bond remains strong and could easily fuel any future collaborations.
Christensen expressed enthusiasm to potentially revisit Anakin Skywalker. “If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer,” he said. The actor explained that delving deeper into Anakin’s psyche still interests him as both a performer and a fan. With Obi-Wan and Darth Vader’s relationship unresolved after their season one duel, there are clearly narrative possibilities left untapped.
Christensen acknowledged the passionate response towards his return in season one. “Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan- he’s just so good at it” he remarked of McGregor’s performance. For devoted prequel fans, seeing these actors embrace their iconic roles once more has been cathartic.
Christensen seems confident this reception increases the chances of a greenlight, saying “I really hope that he continues with the character” Only time will tell if Lucasfilm takes the actors’ leads to officially announce Obi-Wan Kenobi season two.
