
Over the summer, hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs set social media ablaze when he took to Twitter to ask, "Who killed R&B?" Naturally, social media users put the blame on him or stated that the genre is very much alive. At this point, anyone who seriously believes the outdated take that "R&B is dead" simply isn't listening to what R&B artists are releasing.
This year proved once again that the genre still has several veteran artists shining on all fronts and emerging artists putting their own spin on the sound. From Usher's Las Vegas residency being the hottest show in town to Steve Lacy's tour selling out in mere minutes during the presale and fans finally getting their wish of a new SZA album, the proof is right there that R&B is still thriving.
