Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! is a curious new take on a classic monster story. The first trailer left us with many mixed emotions yet still quite curious about how all of this would come together. Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale lead this film as Frankenstein and a revived murder woman who becomes his companion. The latest trailer for The Bride! dives into a narrative that is monstrous and macabre with a lot of Bonnie and Clyde energy.
It seems pretty clear that this newly reanimated bride wants to seek vengeance against those responsible for her demise. That’s totally logical. But there also seems to be some sort of murderous quest against quite a few people by Franky and his lady friend. We aren’t sure exactly what’s going on there but we will get answers when the film comes out. It’s actually quite refreshing to go into this experience without the trailer for The Bride! giving away the whole darn movie.
Here’s a synopsis to go along with the above clip:
A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
This film will hit theaters on March 6.
