A lot is going on regarding the upcoming movie The Devil Wears Prada 2. It seems as though we get more information each day about the sequel that is (wait… whaaa?) 20 years in the making! To be fair, it did stall for a bit, but now we anticipate it to be out in May 2026 – May 1st, to be exact.
We all know Miranda, Andy, and Emily are coming back, played by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, respectively. Stanley Tucci is reprising his role of Nigel, and Rebecca Mader will be Jocelyn again. Two other stars who will be returning are Tracie Thoms (Cold Case, Death Proof) and Tibor Feldman (Henry from Enchanted). Both reprise their roles as Lily and Irv.
A few new stars who’ve signed on to be in the sequel are Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Justin Theroux, and Pauline Chalamet. (And yes, Pauline is Timothée’s older sis.) Although which characters they will be playing has not been confirmed yet, we can only hope that Lucy Liu might be a formidable antagonist, or at least stir things up. She excelled at achieving that in Ally McBeal when she portrayed Ling. Ling would sting with her wickedly zingy comebacks and her evil office hijinks.
Actually, yes – a couple of important points. As we mentioned before, the sequel has been reworked a few times. The original sequel would have followed the second book a little more closely. The second novel, entitled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, has Emily and Andy working together at a top fashion magazine. Miranda enters the picture and offers Andy a deal she can’t refuse (Just sign on the dotted line…).
According to some sources, it is highly likely that the sequel movie will incorporate parts of the book. An intriguing fact is that the book’s author, Lauren Weisberger, was employed at Vogue Magazine for about 10 months. It is said that this is a rough recount of her experience working for the Vogue editor-in-chief, Dame Anna Wintour.
A fun fact: Wintour was quite supportive of the original installment of The Devil Wears Prada. She even stated she found it “entertaining and glamorous and interesting … I was 100 percent behind it.” Curiously, she did redecorate her office after the film’s release, as the replica of her office in the movie was just a little too close!
For anybody wanting to read Weisberger’s books, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns and When Life Gives You Lululemons (a third novel following Emily Charlton), they’re a great summer read. Perfect distraction from the all of the heat.
