The Mets (22-13) are off a crushing doubleheader loss to the St. Louis Cardinals after sweeping them 4-0 earlier in April.
In April, the Mets were beginning their 7-game winning streak and had gained significant momentum for the start of the 2025 MLB season. However, as we start May, the New York Mets have lost a little bit of that luster, going 4-6 in their last ten, with 2 of those losses coming from the Arizona Diamondbacks (18-16).
Tonight, the Mets take on the Diamondbacks in Phoenix, where they hope to swing and pitch themselves out of this rut.
The New York Mets will start the excellent RHP, Griffin Canning (2.61 ERA), opposite the Arizona Diamondbacks' RHP start, Ryne Nelson (5.82 ERA). Canning is poised to give the Mets a solid performance. But the Mets' bullpen will have to show up tonight and perform as they did just one month ago to win.

Pete Alonso: Blistering with an incredible year (so far) and a dominant start in 2025, slashing .333/.451/.646 with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs through 33 games.
Griffin Canning: The new ace owns a formidable 2.61 ERA to start the 2025 MLB season, with a 4-1 record across his starts. He has been outstanding in the current rotation.
Francisco Lindor: The fan-favorite and steady veteran contributor is hitting .308 with 6 home runs and 16 RBIs over 30 games, while anchoring the infield defense with outrageous acrobatic plays.
Corbin Carroll: The current hitting catalyst for the Dbacks' batting lineup, hitting .302 with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs, and 24 runs scored in 27 games; he continues to threaten with both speed and power.
Josh Naylor: Team‑best .304 average and .380 OBP, providing consistent middle‑order production (38 H, 20 RBI).
Brandon Pfaadt: Leads the rotation at 5‑2 with a 3.79 ERA and four quality starts in the current Dbacks pitching staff. He will be the pitcher to watch when he is up later in the series.

From a statistical standpoint, the Mets are the better team. The Mets should beat the Diamondbacks tonight and take this series. However, and this has been a continuous issue with the Mets' morale, when the Mets start winning, they start winning. We'll see dominant streaks and clutch performances across the roster. But when they start losing, they really lose. The demoralization of the roster is contagious.
One solid win is all it takes for the Mets to ignite another winning streak.
