Lewis Hamilton ‘s bombshell move to Ferrari has caused a stir in the F1 driver market for the 2025 season. Multiple drivers are excited to score a seat in Mercedes from the coming season. Amidst the search, Fernando Alonso is one of the prime candidates for the German manufacturer. However, Aston Martin isn’t ready to let the two-time world champion go away just yet.

Aston Martin ambassador Pedro de la Rosa asserted that the team was keen on giving Fernando Alonso reasons to stay. The ex-F1 driver claimed that the 42-year-old was also ‘comfortable’ at Silverstone with great work being done at the team. Additionally, de la Rosa explained that having the Asturian within Silverstone was very important and that the team would give him more reasons to continue.

The most important thing is to give him reasons to stay with us. The work with Fernando is being very good and he is very comfortable in the team. Having an asset like Fernando in an F1 team is very important. Pedro De la Rosa said, as reported by El Larguero.

Apart from this, de la Rosa asserted that Aston Martin did not contemplate ousting Fernando Alonso at all. The 42-year-old was Silverstone’s Plan A, B, and even Plan C. Hence, this showcases how the 42-year-old is of utmost importance to Silverstone. Additionally, the ambassador claimed that a good performance from the challenger was the ‘most important weapon’ to convince Alonso to stay with the team beyond 2024.

We are working to keep Fernando going and we are working as if he were continuing. There is no plan B, our plan A, B and C is Fernando... It is the most important weapon to convince Fernando that the car improves and we are increasingly competitive Pedro de la Rosa noted.

Mike Krack admits Aston Martin needs to ‘add more’ to keep Fernando Alonso

Team principal Mike Krack resonated with Pedro de la Rosa over keeping Fernando Alonso within the team. Krack admitted that Aston Martin needed to add more to the team to interest the two-time world champion to stay. However, if the 42-year-old can fight in the middle of nowhere then it’s already a ‘first step’ for Silverstone.

We need to add more, We definitely need to add more. But if he can fight and not be in the middle of nowhere, it's already a first step, then we will not stop. Mike Krack said, as reported by the-race.com.

Additionally, Krack reassured that the team will keep bringing parts throughout the season to develop the challenger for the former world champion. The Silverstone-based team wishes to keep Alonso happy and motivated and keep him continuing with the team for longer reiterated Krack.

We will bring parts over the season, to keep him motivated and happy at Aston Martin. Mike Krack noted.

Aston Martin is currently in a great battle with Mercedes for the fifth spot in the constructors’ championship. Additionally, Alonso mentioned how Mercedes didn’t attract him because of the team being behind in terms of performance. Hence, the 42-year-old will probably continue with the team beyond the contract expiration if he isn’t provided with better prospects anywhere else.
