Jack Doohan’s Father Takes Blunt Dig at Franco Colapinto After His Devastating Crash

Franco Colapinto had a forgettable debut with Alpine in the first qualifying session with the French team. His addition to the team's lineup had drawn a lot of reactions from fans, with some celebrating his return to Formula 1 as an official driver while others sided with Jack Doohan, the pilot he replaced once Flavio Briatore took over as team principal.

The qualification for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was a tumultuous one. It all started with Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda starring in a worrisome crash during Q1. Colapinto had the same fate and forced the race direction to wave the red flag and end the session.

Even though he made it to Q2, Colapinto raised some eyebrows after his clash. Once the session was over and Oscar Piastri secured another pole position, everybody had something to say. Added to the Ferrari fiasco in Q2 and the backlash they received afterward, the Argentine driver was also on the receiving end of criticism.

Jack Doohan's father, Mick, reacted to the Colapinto crash with a now-deleted Instagram story. Mick Doohan wrote "very impressive," followed by a series of laughing emojis over the image of Colapinto's car right after the crash.

During his 2025 season, Jack Doohan posted two DNFs and didn't finish higher than P14 with Alpine, raising eyebrows around those who believed Colapinto was the right man to accompany Pierre Gasly this season.

At the time of his surprising swap with Colapinto, Doohan ranked 19th in the drivers' standings. He's now the reserve driver, which hasn't sat well with his father and fans.

The former Williams Racing driver will start tomorrow's race at P15, hoping to earn the first points of the season. He'll have to go against some stars to make it at least to the 10th position, as Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will have the same goal.
