Lewis Hamilton has faced some moments of extreme lows in the 2025 season so far. The Briton is desperate for a comeback in performance but is unable to do so. Now, Hamilton will also receive some reduced practice time at the Mexico GP, as he will have to sit out during the FP1 session to fulfill FIA regulations. However, the seven-time champion wouldn’t be too concerned with the feedback for improvement, as LeMans Winner is set to sit in the cockpit of the SF-25.
The Mexico City GP is one of the more pleasant races for Lewis Hamilton, as he has achieved two victories on Mexican soil in the past. However, the 2025 season might be a different story for him as he faces extreme struggles with Ferrari. Regardless, to fulfill FIA’s regulations of allowing rookie drivers to test in the car during the FP1 session, the Briton will sit out of the session.
Meanwhile, LeMans Winner Antonio Fuoco will sit in Lewis Hamilton’s SF-25 and race it around for one hour of the FP1 session. Fuoco has a proven track record in other categories of motorsports, as he comes to the Mexico GP as the 2024 winner of the 24 Hours of LeMans. Notably, he had driven in the 2024 young driver test at Abu Dhabi in the past, and is returning now after almost a year-long break.
Additionally, Lewis Hamilton will also sit out of the car at the Abu Dhabi GP to complete the requirements for the regulations and harbor another rookie driver in the SF-25. Luckily, the Mexico GP isn’t a sprint race weekend, and Hamilton will receive two more practice sessions to get used to the Italian challenger at the Autodromo Hermano Rodriguez circuit.
Charles Leclerc has already fulfilled the conditions of allowing rookie drivers to test out the car in the FP1 session on two different occasions in the past and will be allowed to practice fully in Mexico. Lewis Hamilton will aim to fully focus on the two practice sessions and set his car up with the best possible settings ahead of the Qualifying on Saturday.
Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton’s outing at the US GP was much better compared to their performances after coming back from the summer break. The Briton fared much better on American soil and was able to salvage a P4 finish in the main race. As such, the 40-year-old was overjoyed with the results and the warm welcome that the Texan fans provided him with, no matter the struggles so far.
Lewis Hamilton took to social media and put forth his delight with the positive outing at the US GP. Hamilton insisted that Austin never disappointed him, hinting at the P4 finish and love from the fans. The Briton continued that there were many positives to take from the weekend as he felt more comfortable in the car and believed it was moving in the right direction.
AUSTIN, you never disappoint. There are so many positives to take from this weekend. I’m feeling more and more at one with the car so we’re definitely moving in the right direction. Big shout to the team for the hard work that’s gone into getting us this result and major love to all the fans out in Austin.

The 2025 season now has five races left, and Lewis Hamilton has seemed to find his rhythm. Still, realistically, Hamilton doesn’t have a chance to move up the pecking order in the driver’s title, as he trails Charles Leclerc by 50 points. Regardless, the Briton will try to end the season on a high and start preparing for the massive challenge in the new regulations of the upcoming season.
