MotoGP’s future is suddenly carrying a heavy Formula 1 flavor. According to Autosport, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have both expressed interest in purchasing a MotoGP team, setting up an off-track rivalry between the two biggest names in modern F1.

THe news comes just days after Tech3’s sale to the Ikon Capital consortium, which will see former Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner take over as CEO.

Steiner’s arrival marks the first major crossover of an F1 figure into MotoGP, and it seems Hamilton and Verstappen may not be far behind.

Hamilton’s interest in motorcycles has long been known. During his years at Mercedes, he frequently rode superbikes on closed circuits with engineers and friends, and last year he admitted he was “certainly interested” in being part of MotoGP as Liberty Media pushes the series toward global expansion.

With the backing of TWG Motorsports, Hamilton’s camp has reportedly held talks with at least three independent teams.

Verstappen, meanwhile, is said to be exploring his own  entry. His manager Raymond Vermeulen played down the chances of an imminent deal but confirmed Verstappen’s passion for MotoGP.

The Dutchman is already active in GT racing through his Verstappen.com Racing project, and Autosport reports that his representatives have made inquiries with multiple MotoGP private teams, including LCR.

Factory teams like Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, KTM, and Aprilla are off the table, leaving only a handful of realistic options.

But with MotoGP entering a new era under Liberty, the chance of seeing two F1 champions fighting for ownership rights could become one of the sport’s most fascinating storylines.
