Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen showcased a glimpse of their old rivalry at the Mexico GP. Both drivers achieved a great starting position for the race and were going to give it their all for a great finish. However, in the early stages of the race, both were involved in a collision with Hamilton losing out a lot. The Briton had to make a daring move outside the track, which granted him a ten-second penalty. Now, the 40-year-old lashes out at the uncertain penalty, as Verstappen was allowed to walk away scot-free.

After returning from the emotional summer break, Lewis Hamilton was finally feeling confident at Ferrari and was seemingly back to his impressive racing ways. The Briton also achieved some positive results in the recent races, with the Mexico GP being an anomaly. Hamilton achieved his best career start at Ferrari in P3 for the Mexican race and was having great hopes of atleast a podium finish in the main race.

However, come race day, Lewis Hamilton was not quick during the lights-out and had to battle hard with Max Verstappen for the spot. The Dutchman left no stone unturned and provided a bang for the buck for the seven-time champion. Hamilton made a desperate move and was penalized accordingly. Surprisingly, Verstappen wasn’t given any penalties, which left the 40-year-old seething.

Lewis Hamilton recalled the racing incident and how it occurred. The Briton noted that he had a great start and was braking well heading into the first two turns. Subsequently, he managed his car well and did not go off track in the coming turns.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen cut the corner according to the 40-year-old but still did not receive any reprimands. As such, Hamilton believed it was ‘pretty nuts’ that the reigning world champion walked away scot-free without any repercussions.

I had a great start, and we were braking into Turn 1, I was in Turn 2, I navigated through 1 and 2 and 3, and then didn’t go off track… others cut it, and held position, and didn’t get penalties. It’s pretty nuts.

Lewis Hamilton said, via motorsport.com.

Lewis Hamilton rules out the incident as a ‘racing incident’

None of the drivers involved in the wreckage were penalized for any of their antics, while Lewis Hamilton was hit with a brutal 10-second stop-and-go penalty. This caused him to dwindle dramatically on the track and ultimately finish in only P8, much farther back from his P3 start. As such, the 40-year-old berated the situation and was the only one to be penalized for his antics.

Lewis Hamilton sarcastically claimed that pretty much everyone around him was not penalized, but he was. The 40-year-old ruled the incident out as a mere racing incident that did not warrant a penalty. However, Hamilton was indeed penalized and that too for over ten seconds, which he felt was excessive and awkward from the FIA.

It’s kind of pretty much the same as all the other people around me, so… That’s… It felt like racing, I was fine there, it was just him cutting, and then I’m the only one to get a 10-second penalty – a 10-second stop and go.

Lewis Hamilton noted.

Despite the difficulties at the Mexico GP, Lewis Hamilton isn’t going to give up on performances anytime soon. The 2025 season still has four races left, two of which are sprint weekends. As such, Hamilton can salvage some great points and end his year on a high note. For now, the Briton will likely focus on finishing the season as soon as possible and emerging as a winning force under the new regulations of the 2026 season.
