Max Verstappen has won four back-to-back titles in Formula 1. The Dutch driver simply dominated the start of the ground-effect era. Unfortunately, things have been far different this year as Red Bull struggles to match McLaren. This has virtually ruled the 27-year-old out of contention for the championship. Now, Verstappen has imagined the possibility of never winning a title again.
The reigning world champion has been in a league of his own in recent years. Verstappen shattered several records during his historic campaign in 2023. Moreover, Max Verstappen established himself as one of the all-time greats after he emerged victorious last year. Thus, the Dutchman really has nothing left to prove.
Max Verstappen insisted that he was proud of everything he has achieved over the course of his career so far. The Red Bull star reckoned that he could not have even dreamt of being so successful when he started racing as a kid. Verstappen acknowledged that there is a possibility that he never becomes a five-time winner in the sport. The 27-year-old claimed that he simply doesn’t focus on such a scenario.
I think this has already been more than I could have ever dream of, you know, back in the day. So, of course, I’m very happy and proud of what I have achieved so far and you never know, maybe you will not win a championship again. That’s something that can happen, but it’s not really on my mind.
Max Verstappen told ESPN
The four-time world champion is a pure bred racer who does not care about anything else. Max Verstappen is a blunt speaker who is never afraid of speaking his mind even if it gets him into trouble with the FIA. The Dutchman has now revealed that he will be ready to hang up his racing gloves at the right time.
Max Verstappen reckoned that he will consider racing elsewhere after Formula 1 and even delve into the management side of things. The Dutchman already has a GT3 team and plans to potentially expand the project in the near future. Though, Verstappen clarified that so far nothing is concrete as things will depend on how much fun he really has. Moreover, the reigning world champion recognized that age will inevitably take a toll on his performance in the long run. This is when the 27-year-old will finally decide to retire from racing and give chances to the younger generation. Verstappen insisted that he was in no mood to look like an idiot by prolonging his career.
I would like to drive a little bit more [after F1], but I also actually don’t mind the more like manager side of things, you know, to see other drivers compete in your car, your team. So yeah, I mean, it’s not so easy to fully answer that right now. It also just depends a bit on how much fun it all is, you know, for myself, how fast you are as well because at one point you will get slower with age and then maybe it’s better to put the young guys in … because you don’t want to also look like an idiot!
Max Verstappen explained
Certainly, Max Verstappen is one of the most unique personalities in Formula 1. The Dutchman simply has a different view compared to his peers. Verstappen is the only driver on the current grid who has shown interest in running his own team. Even Lewis Hamilton has never really been interested in a managerial role. Thus, it would be quite interesting to see Verstappen’s future in and outside of F1.
