The British GP would definitely be a race weekend to forget for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman was extremely optimistic about his chances to succeed in Silverstone, owing to a pole position start for the main race. However, the rain-laden 52 laps caused utter chaos for Verstappen as he suffered from distressed conditions concerning the balance of the car. The 27-year-old couldn’t control his car and spun out on multiple occasions. Now, the defending world champion gave an uninterested statement on his championship ambitions this year.

Max Verstappen‘s pole position came as a shock as he seemed to be on the back foot of pace during the initial practice sessions. The torrential conditions at the British GP, coupled with Red Bull’s dismal performance, meant that Verstappen lost the lead early on. To make matters worse, the Dutchman spun out during the last safety car restart and couldn’t earn back all the lost positions. Hence, after ultimately finishing in P5, the Dutchman wasn’t too impressed with his chances for the remainder of the season.

Max Verstappen is now 69 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri, as the gap increases by 8 points following his P5 finish. However, with just 12 races left now and Piastri’s impressive run, the title chances might be close to over. Speaking of the chaotic British GP, Verstappen reckoned that he expected a difficult race, especially due to the weather. However, ending on such a point was unexpected even for him. Regardless, the Dutchman insisted that no one could do anything about it as he hopes to put the race in the past.

I expected a difficult race, with this weather, but like this..? but you can’t do anything about it anyway.

Max Verstappen said in a post-race interview

To make matters worse, Red Bull seems to already have lost their running for the constructors’ championship. And, Max Verstappen has crushing hopes of a drivers’ title by the late 2025 season. Hence, the Dutchman asserted that the team and he weren’t fighting for the title anyways as the results in the end did not matter anymore.

We’re not fighting for the championship anyway, so it doesn’t matter.

Max Verstappen reveals ‘positive thing’ from British GP

Max Verstappen’s performances at the British GP are nothing to write a story about. Despite continuous efforts from the Dutchman, he could not fare well in Silverstone. However, one of Verstappen’s closest friends, Nico Hulkenberg, achieved his long-awaited podium finish after 239 race starts. Due to this, the 27-year-old revealed the only positive thing to take from the woeful weekend.

Verstappen reckoned that Hulkenberg finally coming up on the podium was ‘amazing’. The four-time champion noted that it was the positive thing of the day as he was extremely overjoyed to see the veteran finally standing on the podium. As such, the 27-year-old was happy for the German and hoped for nothing but even more success as Sauber transitions into Audi in the coming years.

Yeah, amazing! That’s the positive thing of the day! I am so happy for him that he got the podium, yeah, so nice to see.

Max Verstappen noted

Red Bull’s performance struggles might finally cause Max Verstappen to lose his cool. The Dutchman is already the center of multiple rumors of wanting to leave Milton Keynes and join Mercedes in the coming season. Such conditions could push Verstappen into doing the unthikable and leaving his long-time team due to continuously losing faith over the race weekends.
