Red Bull has continued to suffer through a performance slump in the 2025 season despite persistent efforts to come out of it. Max Verstappen is giving it his all and trying to score the best results possible. Reportedly, Milton Keynes was considering bringing a special rear wing to the Italian GP, in hopes of finding any improvement possible. However, the 27-year-old has now revealed that the team won’t be doing so and will put their money elsewhere.
Red Bull has already brought in multiple upgrades and hoped to find improvements in the car by now, but this hasn’t been the case. Max Verstappen has also accepted that the team expected more pace out of the RB21 challenger. Still, with nine races to go, Milton Keynes doesn’t want to write off their chances so soon, as they could’ve come up with a few upgrades at Monza.
Max Verstappen has confirmed that Red Bull isn’t bringing their special rear wing to the Italian GP in Monza. The Dutchman accepted that the situation wasn’t ideal, especially considering the high-speed circuit of Monza. Verstappen recalled the previous outings at the Italian circuit, where they did not bring a special wing either, but the car’s performance compensated for the loss in pace.
It doesn’t help here that we don’t have a special Monza rear wing. That’s not ideal, considering the top speed. We never had that in the past years either, but then the car was good enough to compensate for that.
Max Verstappen said, as reported by RacingNews365
Still, Max Verstappen believes that Red Bull should reopen the matter in the upcoming season and consider bringing a new rear wing by then. However, the Dutchman remained in acceptance of the team and their decision to stick with the older setup. Verstappen insisted that Milton Keynes decided to put their money on other aspects of the car, as it would be interesting to witness how the Italian GP pans out for them.
Now it’s something we might have to do next year. Now the team has made a different choice and they’d rather spend the money on something else.
Max Verstappen added
The second driver problem at Red Bull has continued despite switching Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda after just two races in the 2025 season. Tsunoda has failed to match up to the expectations banked on him and run alongside Max Verstappen in the team. Meanwhile, Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar has surpassed all expectations and has achieved a podium in his rookie season. As such, ex-F1 team boss Guenther Steiner has weighed in on Hadjar potentially teaming up with Verstappen next.
Guenther Steiner reckoned that Red Bull needed to promote Isack Hadjar to the parent team next, as they did not have any other candidates lined up. Steiner pointed out that the Frenchman was doing good and was already a Red Bull junior driver. The 60-year-old questioned whether Hadjar had the potential to go on and beat Max Verstappen at Milton Keynes in the near future.
Maybe they have the need at Red Bull to promote him [Isack Hadjar], because they have nobody else. He’s doing good, he’s a Red Bull driver. Can he be the next talent, which at some stage will beat Max? Maybe. They have so many examples.
Guenther Steiner told GPblog
Red Bull must ensure that their challenger becomes more drivable by the second driver in the team, as only Max Verstappen seems to have the issues under control for now. The Dutchman’s championship ambitions continue to weaken with every passing race. The struggles have reached such an extent that Verstappen has even accepted never winning another F1 title ever again in his career.
