McLaren has emerged as the strongest team in terms of performance in the 2025 season. The Woking-based constructors have ridden off into the distance in the constructor championship with 559 points, courtesy of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Even though the constructors’ title seems done and dusted for McLaren, the intra-team battle between Piastri and Norris is far from over. As the Aussie leads the title by nine points, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher warned the former not to take untoward risks if he starts losing.
Oscar Piastri clinched the title lead early on in the season and put forth a flawless performance to hold onto the lead. Lando Norris made some mistakes in the beginning and seemed to lose a lot of running. However, the Briton has now regained his form and is just nine points off the lead to Piastri. Now, as the team prepares for racing after the summer break, the championship fight is only supposed to heat up further from this point forward.
McLaren has declared that they won’t meddle between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris fighting on the track with team orders. Both drivers will have to give it their all to win their maiden drivers’ title this year. However, Piastri could lose all the momentum in the season if he loses the upper hand in the standings. Ralf Schumacher issued a warning to the 24-year-old and advised him not to get carried away.
Ralf Schumacher reckoned that he could see Oscar Piastri taking too many untoward risks on the track if he sees the drivers’ title going away from him. Schumacher pointed out that everything would go wrong if Piastri lets this get the best of him and loses crucial points. As such, the Aussie must keep a level head while racing on the track and not make any mistakes against Norris, as he is readily available to capitalize on the former’s errors.
I see the danger with Oscar of taking too many risks when he sees the title in front of him, That can sometimes go wrong.
Ralf Schumacher told Bild
McLaren’s pace is extremely dominant compared to the rivals on the track this year. As such, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have the best possible machinery to achieve the driver’s title. Still, one mistake could prove fatal for either of the driver’s championship ambitions this year. As such, Ralf Schumacher revealed the deciding factor for Piastri’s title win.
Ralf Schumacher revealed that Oscar Piastri overcame his weaknesses of being too harsh on his tires from his sophomore year. Now, the 24-year-old possessed strong nerves and great speed, as Schumacher believed both Piastri and Lando Norris to be on the same level. Hence, with two great drivers fighting for the title, the German insisted that one small mistake or DNF could be the deciding factor for the championship.
Oscar has overcome his weaknesses from last year. He was too harsh on the tyres and couldn’t keep up with the race pace. Now he has strong nerves and is fast. I see them both on the same level. One retirement or one mistake can decide the world championship.
Ralf Schumacher noted
Only ten races are left in the 2025 season after the culmination of the summer break. The top two drivers being so close to one another proves that the end-of-the-year battle for the drivers’ title would be extremely interesting to witness. For now, both drivers will take a much-needed break and hope to bounce back stronger than before on the track.
