Christian Horner has continued to make headlines despite being fired from Red Bull with immediate effect in the last month. The team’s performance deteriorated to such an extent that the team owners decided that axing the 51-year-old was the best option. Horner hasn’t commented much on his plans after being brutally snubbed by Milton Keynes. However, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher made a bold claim on the Englishman’s plans in the near future.

Christian Horner‘s firing from Red Bull wasn’t simply due to the team’s ever-so-worsening form in recent seasons. The Briton was involved in an alleged scandal with a female employee of the team. Though he was cleared twice by a thorough investigation, many personnel within the squad lost faith in him. Moreover, Horner’s sour relationship with Max Verstappen‘s father Jos Verstappen and the power struggle between the former and Helmut Marko all contributed to his brutal axe.

Even though Christian Horner was unexpectedly snubbed from the team, he still served them loyally for over two decades and helped the team win six constructors’ championships and eight drivers’ titles. As such, Horner’s caliber in leading a team cannot go unnoticed by the rival teams that might be looking for a new team principal. Rumors continue to flourish about the 51-year-old potentially looking to join Alpine or some other team as soon as the 2026 season.

Ralf Schumacher weighed in on this matter and predicted what could be next in the cards for Christian Horner. Crashgate mastermind Flavio Briatore had recently returned to Alpine and is acting as the current team principal. However, Schumacher reckoned that the time might be up for Briatore as he could soon be replaced by someone else. The German pointed out that a team needed someone tech-savvy and relevant, someone like Horner.

I think the time of figures like Flavio is over. You need tech-savvy people at the top, someone like Horner.

Ralf Schumacher claims Red Bull ‘stuck in mediocrity’ despite Christian Horner axe

Ralf Schumacher had predicted long back that if Red Bull continues to function with Christian Horner as a team principal, they could soon go into mediocrity. The team enjoyed immense domination at the beginning of the ground-effect era. However, Schumacher believes that the time of domination for the Austrian outfit might be over already, despite firing Horner.

Laurent Mekies has taken the reins at Red Bull after Christian Horner’s firing. Ralf Schumacher reckoned that Mekies brought the ‘old feeling’ back to Milton Keynes, as the team looked more approachable and human, with no power struggle between anyone. Regardless, it would take a couple of years for the Frenchman to get accustomed to the environment and lead the team to success. Anywho, Schumacher declared that the outfit was stuck in mediocrity and might not get out of it anytime soon.

He brings back the old Red Bull feeling. Approachable, human, open – no longer this power struggle in the background. But: it takes two to three years before things really get going again. At the moment, the team is stuck in mediocrity.

Ralf Schumacher noted

Red Bull’s current performance is extremely disappointing, even though Max Verstappen is giving it his all. The Dutchman is unable to emerge as a winning force and win races after winning two at the beginning of the year. The team must work hard on their form over the summer break and ensure that they score much better results come the latter half of the 2025 season.
