Lewis Hamilton‘s time at Ferrari has remained very troublesome. The Briton joined the team with high hopes of championship contention. However, Hamilton remains unable to compete for even podium finishes in the first 12 races of the season. Now, during his home race, the 40-year-old opened up on still missing Mercedes and the entire crew as his time at Ferrari remains nothing short of a disappointment.
Lewis Hamilton‘s only highlight in the 2025 season remains a sprint race win in China at the beginning of the year. The Briton has worked extremely hard with Ferrari to come out of the performance slump since then. However, the pace issues coupled with strategic blunders have caused Hamilton to lose his temper with the crew at times. Now, following a mediocre outing at his home race in the British GP, the 40-year-old has reminisced about his former team.
Hamilton raced with Mercedes for over 12 years and won six drivers’ titles with them. Due to this, it wasn’t going to be easy to simply move on from them and start scoring results with Ferrari. Despite being happy at Maranello, the seven-time champion reveals that he still misses Brackley and the crew.
Speaking of his woes this year and feelings on Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton reckoned that he still loved the old crew and missed them dearly. The 40-year-old noted that he went past Brackley’s garage and saw all the engineers, as fond memories flooded his mind. Hamilton especially missed his long-time race engineer Bono, with whom he had a great bond. The seven-time champion insisted that there was still a lot of love from the German carmaker despite leaving the team shockingly.
When I made the decision… I still love my old team. I miss them. I miss working with the crew all the time. Some of these races I go by the engineers room and go by the garage and see Bono and see all the mechanics. It’s so much love still there.
Lewis Hamilton said at the British GP public interview
Lewis: "It's mind blowing for me to see you guys with the red caps…"

Ferrari’s performance isn’t seeming to improve even with the passing of race weekends. Lewis Hamilton has come close to a podium finish, but something goes wrong in the end as he barely misses the top-three finish. Now, the 40-year-old comes clean on the struggles he is facing at Maranello and how his time has been nothing short of a rollercoaster.
Lewis Hamilton pinpointed that he took a very big leap of faith in ditching Mercedes and joining Ferrari for the final chapter of his career in Formula 1. While Maranello is the most iconic team in the history of the pinnacle of motorsport, they are still struggling to make winning races a habit. As such, the 40-year-old asserted that the 2025 season had been very tough for him. While there were many good things about joining the Scuderia, he had no involvement in developing the SF-25, as he couldn’t even help fix the errors.
But it was such a big leap of faith to join a new team and it’s been so tough this year. So many good things but also, ultimately I’m with a car that I’ve not been anything apart of developing.
Lewis Hamilton added
The 2025 season is still halfway pending as Ferrari might need a miracle of a performance revival. Hamilton is currently in P6 in the drivers’ standings and is off the championship lead by a whopping 131 points. Hence, the 40-year-old has already shifted his focus to the upcoming year and wants a much better time then. Now, time will tell if the Italian outfit finds massive improvements under the new regulations of 2026 and enables the Briton to finally compete for his record-breaking eighth drivers’ title.
