The countdown to the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has officially begun. From September 30 to November 2, the world’s top eight women’s teams will battle it out across India and Sri Lanka for the most coveted title in women’s ODI cricket.
India will host the tournament for the first time in 12 years, with matches scheduled at four Indian venues—Bengaluru, Guwahati, Indore, and Visakhapatnam—and one in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo. The opening match, featuring hosts India, will take place at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In a politically sensitive but practical arrangement, all of Pakistan’s group matches will be held in Colombo. This follows a mutual understanding between India and Pakistan not to play ICC events in each other’s countries, resulting in a hybrid hosting model.
The semi-finals will be held on October 29 and 30, with the first taking place in either Guwahati or Colombo, and the second confirmed for Bengaluru. The grand finale will take place on November 2 in either Bengaluru or Colombo, allowing the finalists ample time to regroup before the decisive showdown.
The eight teams set to compete are India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Australia enters as the defending champions and the most decorated side in the tournament’s history, with seven titles already to their name.
The format remains unchanged from 2022: each team will play the other once in a round-robin stage. The top four will then advance to the semi-finals. A total of 31 matches will determine who lifts the trophy.
Notably absent are the West Indies, who narrowly missed qualification, edged out by Bangladesh on net run rate in the qualifiers held in Lahore earlier this year.
New Chandigarh, once considered for hosting duties, was removed due to concerns about India playing a final in a venue without prior international fixtures. In contrast, Bengaluru has proven its ability to draw enthusiastic crowds and deliver world-class matches.
With excitement building and venues confirmed, fans now have a clear roadmap to one of the year’s most anticipated global sporting events. Women's cricket is ready to take center stage once again—bigger, bolder, and more competitive than ever.
