Maryland is a hotbed for talented high school quarterbacks, and in the Class of 2028, one name stands above the rest: dual-threat sensation 2028 QB Carlos Spencer Jr.
In 2024, Spencer served in a backup role, but he was a sponge when it came to learning the playbook and he made sure he was ready when his number was called. That readiness has been shown many times this season.
At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Spencer leads the offense for the Loyola Blakefield Dons (4-2), located in Towson, Md. Through six games this season, Spencer has passed for 1,838 yards for 15 touchdowns and just six INTs in 200 pass attempts. In addition, Spencer has scored a rushing touchdown. Spencer’s passing yards are tops in the state and he is the No. 1 quarterback in the Class of 2028.
Spencer has thrown for more than 400 yards twice so far this season. Against Georgetown Prep, Spencer passed for 479 yards and three TDs in a 20-7 victory. In the game against Gillman, Spencer threw for 416 yards and three touchdowns. His ball security was flawless as he thrown zero INTs. In addition, Spencer added 30 yards rushing in the 38-21 win.
When it comes to workouts and training, Spencer trains at the Quarterback Factory once per week, under the watchful eye of trainer Chris Baucia. There, he works on his mechanics and learns the intricacies of the position. He began training at the QB Factory at age 8.
In addition, Spencer also puts in the work once a week at QB City, under trainer Russell Thomas, and has been at QB City since he was 13-years-old.
On the scholarship front, Spencer holds an offer from Morgan State. In addition, Spencer has drawn interest from FBS schools Oregon, Boston College, South Carolina and USF.
The Godfather of Recruiting, Mike Farrell, said this Spencer:
“2028 QB Carlos Spencer Jr. is a player on the radar early. Quick release and strong arm and ability to elude the rush.”
