'Alabama never did that' - Former Florida head coach Steve Spurrier still holds tightly to unique accomplishment with the Gators

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide had an incredible run of success from 2007 to 2023.

Saban and the Tide won six national championships, nine SEC championships, and 14 SEC West division titles.

Just an insane run that will likely never be matched.

While Saban’s Alabama teams achieved remarkable success, there's one SEC feat that only Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators managed to accomplish.

Florida won four straight SEC Championships from 1993 to 1996. Saban and Alabama came close to matching that run, but the best the Crimson Tide managed was three in a row, from 2014 to 2016.

"We were talking about that the other night, his (Former Florida QB Danny Wuerffel) four years here, gotta go back a while, Gators, but we won four SEC [championships] in a row," said Spurrier during a recent appearance on Another Dooley Noted podcast. "And Alabama never did that. They got three in a row one time. That's a record that I don't think anybody's going to break that one."

Spurrier is one of the greatest college football coaches of all times. But Saban has the far better career résumé.

Those four SEC Championships in a row, though, are something that Saban doesn't have. You certainly can't blame Spurrier for holding onto that accomplishment tightly.
