Amazon is surely getting ready for when it takes over the NBA media rights and they have assembled an incredible 1-2 punch as they are reportedly nearing a deal to sign legendary play-by-play broadcaster Kevin Harlan. Amazon has already announced some of its personalities for the studio shows as well as another play-by-play announcer so they are loading up to make the games a must-listen and must-watch event. Let’s take a look at all that we know at this time about Kevin Harlan closing in on a deal with Amazon.
According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, Amazon is closing in on a deal to sign Kevin Harlan to a contract for the 2025-26 NBA season broadcast. The 64-year-old broadcaster is expected to be the number two play-by-play announcer for their NBA commentary team as Amazon Prime Video already has an agreement with Ian Eagle for the top games. Amazon declined to comment on the incoming addition of Harlan earlier this week.
Harlan essentially became the unofficial top broadcaster for the NBA coverage for TNT Sports once Marv Albert retired. Harlan is expected to continue his NFL and college basketball duties for CBS, as well as be the radio voice for both the Super Bowl and “Monday Night Football” for Westwood One while doing NBA commentary. This adds the credibility for the NBA coverage by Amazon, but it is important to note that there is no analyst for either Eagle or Harlan at the time of this writing. Dwayne Wade has been discussed in a hybrid role of commentary and in-studio shows while Stan Van Gundy and Richard Jefferson are also being discussed, though neither has been signed by Amazon either.
