Arizona vs Oregon Prediction, Preview & Odds: NCAA Tournament Second Round

There should’ve been a little bit of drama in the first round for Arizona and Oregon.

The Ducks faced a very big, very versatile Liberty team that blew though the Conference USA season, and … it was over before everyone got a chance to settle in. Oregon looked fresh right away and never let it get interesting.

Arizona should’ve at least been pushed by a high-powered Akron team that scores as much as anyone in America. But the MAC champ’s lack of height turned out to be way too much to overcome in a too-easy 93-65 Wildcat win.

Why Oregon Will Win

There’s nothing the Ducks do at a particularly high level, but they do a little of everything right. Best of all, they don’t have any massive flaws, and they’re adaptable. They throw a little something different defensively every time out, and Arizona has to get ready to be creative.

Why Arizona Will Win

Oregon isn’t built for firefights. That’s not to say it can’t keep up, and it’ll push for 80 when needed, but the team is 11-0 when allowing fewer than 65 points, and 16-1 when giving up fewer than 73.

Again, it can do it - it beat Alabama and Maryland - but Arizona needs and wants to get on the move, make this an up-and-down shootout, and get this into the 80s. It’s been held to under 73 just seven times, and Oregon doesn’t slow things down enough to keep that from happening.

Even when the Wildcats are off, they’ll manage to keep the offense pumping. But …

Arizona vs Oregon: Who Will Win?

The Oregon defense is playing really, really well.

Along with clamping down on Liberty, it managed to go the last eight games of the regular season without allowing 80 points. With its intensity, balance, and ability on the free throw line, Oregon gets the stops needed to pull off a thriller.
