Faruque Ahmed has been removed from his position as the country's representative on the board of directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Following the receipt of a motion of no confidence against Faruque, which was signed by eight BCB directors, the sports ministry released a statement on Thursday night.
"In light of the no-confidence letter sent by eight BCB directors against Faruque Ahmed, and the report presented by the fact-finding committee about the BPL, his nomination as the representative of the National Sports Council has been canceled."
The directors who signed the motion of no confidence were Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Mahbubul Anam, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Fahim Sinha, Salahuddin Chowdhury, Iftikhar Rahman, Saifur Alam Swapan Chowdhury, and Manjur Alam. However, the BCB constitution does not allow for such a move. The only board director who did not sign the letter, besides Faruque himself, was former Bangladesh captain Akram Khan.
The directors charged Faruque with constitutional infractions and dictatorial rule. They brought up clause 14-B of the BCB's constitution, which states that the board of directors must provide its consent before coaches may be hired or fired. The letter claimed that Chandika Hathurusingha was fired by Faruque in October without notifying the board of directors. The BPL teams Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings were approved by Faruque for the 2024–25 season without sufficient due diligence, they also allege.
Faruque stated that he was considering legal action after seeing the no-confidence letter signed by the directors. He mentioned that he would speak to his lawyer about the letter and might take legal steps, adding that the BCB constitution does not mention a no-confidence motion, so he believed it did not carry any weight.
