How Big Is Big?

I’m a big bass angler. Well, I mean, yes, I really love bass fishing and especially big bass. But, in this case I mean more in a literal sense. I know I have mentioned more than once, I’m 6’5” and definitely not a beanpole. And I’m only bringing it up again, because I spend most of my life accepting things that aren’t built to fit me—shoes, airplane seats, my wife’s Mazda Miata, and of course, sunglasses.

My First Impression

While wandering the Bassmaster Classic Expo, I noticed the Bajio Sunglasses booth. I had heard good things about the brand, but I had never tried on a pair. As I approached the booth, a friendly guy, a Bajio pro staffer, I believe, introduced himself. He was an inch or two taller than me! It’s funny, I forget how tall I am until I meet someone even taller. It’s a little shocking. Anyway, as a member of the same “club”, he knew exactly what I needed to hear about Bajio.

“Are you familiar with our Stiltsville frame?”

“No.”

“Do you have trouble finding sunglasses that fit?”

“Yes. Yes, I do.”

With a knowing nod, he took the pair of glasses which were perched on top of his hat and handed them to me. I studied them briefly. They looked stylish and produced that immediate sensation of quality you just know when you feel it. But still, I had over 30 years of lowered expectations and compromise rolling around in the back of my head.

I know this seems dramatic for a pair of sunglasses, but it was a pretty special moment when I put them on. At first I wondered if they were too big, but then I realized that’s what something that actually fits me feels like. It’s pretty exciting when a manufacturer is willing to accommodate the needs of such a small percent of their potential customers. Bravo!

Real World Test

Now, it’s a couple months later and I have worn these Bajio Stiltsville sunglasses a ton. As expected, they feel great, even after a long day on the water. And as my attention has moved away from the fit, I’ve really started to appreciate the experience of looking through the Bajio lenses. They talk about the superior clarity of their lenses, and it is unmistakable.

I opted for the Rose Mirror lenses and love them. They are designed for lower light and overcast days where they excel. But I think because they are filtering out 96% of the blue light and 92% of the yellow light, they eliminate so much glare and eye strain, that I find them to be perfectly comfortable and effective on sunny days, too. And if the name and the catalog images make you hesitant to get the Rose lenses, I assure you they don’t end up looking Barbie pink in real life. Mostly, they look like mirrored glasses, just reflecting everything around them. Excellent choice!

Stiltsville Technical Description

Now here is the technical description. The Stiltsville frames feature a full, 8-base wrap design for light-blocking performance. The generous non-slip rubber nose pads and rubber temple tips help them fit snug on your face even on the roughest waters. They are made from a plant-based material that biodegrades more easily and is gentler on our oceans. They come in six lens colors in both glass and polycarbonate. All lenses are polarized and include proprietary LAPIS technology that blocks blue light, making them the clearest lenses on the planet. In addition, they have an oleophobic lens coating to reduce scratching and make cleaning easier.

Who Should Consider Bajio Sunglasses?

And let me add that Bajio offers very high-quality models for every size face. So, literally anyone who appreciates the benefits of really good polarized glasses should check them out.

But in this case, I’m offering up some advice to my big bassin’ brothers. Do yourself a favor and try a pair of Bajio Stiltsville sunglasses.
