A while ago, there were whisperings of a Blossom reboot. The early to mid-1990s sitcom starred Mayim Bialik as the titular character, an Italian-American teen living in a home with her brothers and single dad. From her quirky wardrobe to her fun friends like the always-rambling Six, the series was beloved by many kids and teens. With many shows and franchises coming alive again, it wasn’t shocking to hear about Blossom possibly making a return. Well, that’s no longer happening. Bialik herself revealed that the Blossom reboot will not be moving forward at Disney+.
Deadline reports that she delivered this news via Substack. She said it wasn’t about the ideas and concepts being bad, but rather a lot of “industry-wide mergers and new executives who didn’t see the merit in pursuing the project.” The reboot would follow Blossom decades later to see what she’s been up to. That honestly takes away the allure of the whole show. It was about coming-of-age shenanigans with a very Gen X vibe. But Bialik is not giving up on a Blossom reboot.
“While it is possible no one wants a Blossom reboot, I’m pretty certain Disney got this one wrong,” she stated. “The sun is gonna surely shine. Maybe not the way Don and I intended, but this door closed. While we didn’t want it to, we are powerless over every aspect of it except what we know to be true: we loved this possibility with all that we have and we are so so sorry we couldn’t get it to happen.”
Sadly, Blossom isn’t even streaming anywhere for fans but you can buy seasons on Prime Video. Maybe one day we will catch up with Blossom.
