There are only two games left in the college football season, and the SEC will once again not play for a National Championship Game for a third-straight season. But it’s not just that, it’s been a historically bad bowl season for the SEC. With the SEC teams officially done playing football, the league officially finishes 2-8 against Power 4 teams in bowls and 0-3 in the playoff against other Power 4 teams.

On top of that, the SEC will not play in a National Championship game for a third-straight season. The last time the SEC went three-straight seasons without winning a National Championship was 1999 to 2002 (Florida State, Oklahoma, Miami and Ohio State).

The ACC also finished the season with a winning record vs. the SEC at 8-6. So while the Big 12 only went 4-4 in bowl games this season, which is disappointing after it’s 3-1 start, imagine what the SEC fan boys would be saying if it was the Big 12 coming off a 2-8 record vs. non-Big 12 teams in bowl games. You and I both know they’d be doubling down on, “It just means more.”

Well, it just might be time for the SEC to change it’s phrase to, “It doesn’t mean what it used to.”

Now given the tough times the SEC has fallen on, I expect SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to lobby for nine SEC teams to make the 12-team Playoff next year. That’s obviously the only answer!
