Brett Yormark Responds to Greg Sankey’s ‘Press Release’ Accusation

Well, folks, it’s no secret that SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is FLUSTERED.

After making multiple decisions that have effectively placed himself at the center of criticism for everything wrong with college football, Sankey has now become defensive and is lashing out at the Big 12 and ACC.

“I don’t need lectures from others about the good of the game — I don’t lecture others about the good of the game — or coordinating press releases about the good of the game,” Sankey said. “Ok, you can issue your press statement, but I’m actually looking for ideas to move us forward.”

Even his false narrative that the Big 12 and ACC were releasing “coordinating press releases” about the good of the game wasn’t enough to rattle Brett Yormark, and he responded accordingly.

“I agreed with Greg’s follow-up statement that I’d be entertained by it, and I was,” Yormark said. “We all have thick skin here. But the neat thing about our relationship amongst the [Power Four] commissioners is that we’re going to battle. That’s part of life.”

“We’re going to agree to disagree,” Yormark continued. “We’re kind of in that mode right now, but I have a lot of respect for my peers, and I know they have a lot of respect for me and [ACC Commissioner] Jim [Phillips], and we’ll end up in the right place.”

The bulk of Sankey’s frustration stems from ongoing debates about the future of the College Football Playoff, a format that the SEC has been trying to stack in their favor for years. The “5+11” model, a format that includes Power Four champions, the highest-ranked G5 team, and 11 at-large bids, appears to be gaining momentum, something Yormark is pleased to hear.

“It has always been our first choice,” Yormark told ESPN insider Heather Dinich. “It’s fair and rewards on-field performance. I’m not surprised SEC coaches like it.”
