At the start of the 2026 season, Caitlin Clark received massive off-court news: she  ranked second in basketball jersey sales since 2024, trailing only NBA megastar Stephen Curry.

It’s ironic that two players with similar play styles and top-notch offensive games were leading the chart, highlighting how fans saw basketball now. While many credit Curry as the catalyst for the ‘change’ in the NBA, CC has similar effects in the WNBA.

But the Fever guard needed to get closer to the four-time NBA champ’s game, and she worked out with Brandon Payne, Steph’s trainer during the offseason. “[It was] mostly [looking for] creative ways to make myself better and to challenge myself. Found a lot of ways to do that this offseason from us working together… What he’s been able to do with Steph, that gives you a lot of confidence in the things that he can maybe bring to me,” the playmaker spoke about it in a recent press conference.

Payne trained Curry when he was a shooter for the Golden State Warriors, and hadn’t won any titles. After the training, the NBA finals MVP changed his routine, and the rest is history.

While many compare the 24-year-old WNBA star to Curry, it’s mostly because of their shooting prowess and ability to draw the defense. But an analyst sees one striking difference between the two players’ games.

Analyst Demands More From Caitlin Clark For Stephen Curry Comparisons

Playing as guards, both players attract a double team most of the time, as the opposition respects their passing and shooting abilities. That’s where fans and many analysts see a similarity between the two. But Rachel DeMita pointed out the ability to attract the defense when they are not in possession of the ball.

“So, her perimeter off-ball gravity is high. But when you look at her interior off-ball gravity, that’s when it starts getting lower,” DeMita said. “I think that’s just so interesting when we’re talking about some of the biggest topics of conversation: Is Caitlin Clark playing off the ball?”

While CC took tips from Staph’s trainer and will be working on the same, it’s interesting to see her prefer Steph’s style of play, given that she idolizes Luka Doncic’s offense.
