When a season-ending groin injury cut Caitlin Clark’s 2025 campaign to just 13 games, she found another way to stay in the basketball conversation, as she joined NBC Sports as a special contributor for Basketball Night in America. Debuting courtside at Madison Square Garden ahead of the Lakers-Knicks game in February, Clark has returned for select broadcasts through the playoffs.
The Indiana Fever star has been a visible presence around the league’s biggest moments this season, and one player she has consistently had her eye on is Victor Wembanyama. The two share quite a bit in common, as both were drafted first overall in consecutive years, both won Rookie of the Year, and both missed significant time in their sophomore seasons due to injury.
That being said, Clark, after watching Wembanyama score 12 first-quarter points to open San Antonio’s 111-98 Game 1 win over Portland, went to X with a three-word verdict, writing, “Wemby is ridiculous.”

The post landed with the full weight of the performance behind it, as Wembanyama finished with 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 13-of-21 shooting, leading the second-seeded Spurs to a 1-0 series lead in their first postseason since 2019.
Furthermore, the season Caitlin Clark was reacting to has been a statement year for Wembanyama, and one she has closely followed from the broadcast desk.
The Alien is an MVP finalist alongside Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, averaging 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, leading the league with 3.1 blocks per game, all while also becoming the first player in 40 seasons to reach 4,000 points and 600 blocks before turning 23.
Having said that, the praise goes both ways as Wembanyama has been equally vocal about Clark for quite some time now.
Back in 2024, Wembanyama was asked which WNBA player inspires him most, and he did not hesitate as he said. “I think Caitlin Clark.”
“When she was in college, she was the only college player that I was really in awe of their game. Men’s and women’s college basketball, she’s probably the most impressive I’ve seen,” Wembanyama added.
