Imagine a power rankings of celebrities who surf. Who’d top the list?
Barack Obama bodysurfs, having grown up in Hawaii; Ivanka Trump is always getting caught by the paps on surf trips to Costa Rica and the like; Matthew McConaughey backs San Clemente boy, Griffin Colapinto, and makes occasional trips to Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch; Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis spends time on the North Shore, oh yeah, and guest starred in Point Break.
But who among these mainstream elites properly charges, actually shreds, and gets props from the core lord surf crowd more than most? That would Thor himself, Mr. Chris Hemsworth. And Thor threw down a hammer recently, during a deadly swell that slammed his homeland of Australia over Easter weekend, pulling into a serious cavern, via jet ski assist albeit, but nonetheless impressive. Give it a look-see below, and ponder…does Thor charge harder than you?
After posting the banger, the surf world chimed in with praise:
“Backdoor Thor” – Kalani Robb
“Oh damn… that’s a bomb” – Strider Wasilewski
“Haha that’s insane” – Kai Lenny
“Yeah big boy” – Italo Ferreira
“Weapon” – Leonardo Fioravante
It’s not the first time we’ve seen Hemsworth shredding, either. He and his family frequently take trips to the world’s best wave pools; he surfed the Arctic for his National Geographic show Limitless; he (wake) surfed a party wave with the GOAT, Kelly Slater; and he has spoken about his childhood growing up surfing, which resulted in a lifelong addiction.
“I’ve always loved surfing,” he told GQ. “It’s one of the few things that holds my attention completely and in its entirety. It was all I thought about the entire week [as a kid]. I didn’t really have much of a social life during high school. I wasn’t really going out to parties. All I wanted to do was surf and watch movies. It kept me out of trouble, I think. “There are far worse addictions out there.”
