College Football Program Fires Head Coach After 0-12 Season

As college football teams across the country work through spring practice, one program has decided to make a major change in its coaching staff.

Following the 2024 season a couple of coaches were dismissed from their respective programs, which often happens quickly after the season's end.

Kent State, the only FBS team to finish 0-12 in 2024, was seemingly ready to head into year three under head coach Kenni Burns. But on Friday, college football reporter Matt Zenitz revealed that Burns has been fired from the Mid-American Conference football program.

Burns had a 1-23 record in two seasons leading the Golden Flashes.

Burns was placed on administrative leave March 27 before being officially fired from the Golden Flashes.

According to ESPN, Kent State did not provide details as to why Burns was placed on administrative leave, but they made the quick move to announce offensive coordinator Matt Carney as the interim head coach.

Before serving as the head coach of the Kent State Golden Flashes, Burns was on the staff at Minnesota. He was the Golden Gophers' running backs coach from 2017-18 and the associate head coach of the Big Ten program from 2019-22.

He also previously spent time with Western Michigan, Wyoming, North Dakota State and Southern Illinois.
