Renowned college basketball announcer Dick Vitale has battled and survived four types of cancer over the past five years.

In 2021, the legendary voice of college hoops was diagnosed with lymphoma and melanoma. He was cancer-free by 2022, but the following year, he was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer and had to undergo radiation.

Vitale then had to go through surgery in 2024 due to a lymph node in his neck that showed cancer, per ESPN.

The 86-year-old has since returned to the broadcast booth, making his comeback last February during a Duke-Clemson game.

On Tuesday, Vitale provided a new update on his health condition after undergoing his quarterly exam and check-up, revealing that he's doing well.

"I’m thrilled with the news from my oncologist Dr Rick Brown after my exam & analysis of my bloodwork during my quarterly exam," Vitale wrote. "He said the results were ALL terrific.

Vitale proceeded to issue a reminder to other cancer patients to "always think positive and have faith." He also made sure to show his appreciation to those who supported him throughout his journey to beat his health issues.

"Thanks to ALL of YOU that sent me [prayers]. The prayers & [love] sent means so much & are so appreciated. . If u know someone that battles that disease take a my one y ‘ send them a [prayer]."

Fans were quick to show support to Vitale once again following his health update, with many also heaping praise on the strength he showed throughout his battle with multiple types of cancer.

"Major congratulations to you ... im very happy for you!" a commenter wrote. Another one said, "Awesome news. To another 30 years."

A fan added, "Wonderful news and you are such an inspiration."

"So happy to hear Coach! Our family are big fans of yours and look forward to seeing you at First Watch during our Snowbird Season," a supporter remarked.

A hyped follower said, "Congratulations!"

"Awesome baby!!! Answered prayer!" a sixth social media user shared.

What's Next for Dick Vitale?

With Vitale healthier than ever, he's expected to be heavily involved in college basketball this 2025. It's worth noting that prior to his return earlier this year, he had not been in the broadcast booth since 2023.

Vitale also signed a new contract with ESPN that will keep him with the network until at least the 2027-28 season.

Aside from Vitale's work, though, ESPN also previously announced the launch of the Dick Vitale Invitational — a new annual men’s college basketball event created to honor the legendary broadcaster.

The inaugural Dick Vitale Invitational will pit the Texas Longhorns and Duke Blue Devils against each other in a showdown at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.
