PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo showed cross-league support as he wore a Phoenix Mercury jersey ahead of a pivotal matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
His choice of wardrobe comes as both teams played important games in their respective leagues.

Perdomo’s tribute to the WNBA team was on the same night both the D-Backs and Mercury rallied from early deficits to come back and win.
The Diamondbacks, trailing 4-0 after the top of the seventh inning, came back against the Dodgers’ bullpen and scored five unanswered runs to win the opener. Perdomo hit a single to bring in the winning run from second base, continuing his strong September as Arizona pushes for a wild-card spot.

Earlier in the night, in Minneapolis, the Mercury erased a 20-point deficit to defeat the Minnesota Lynx, 89-83, in overtime. Phoenix guard Sami Whitcomb made a critical 3-point shot to tie the game with less than three seconds in regulation, allowing the team to go on a 10-4 run in OT to even the WNBA semifinal series, 1-1.

The D-Backs’ win keeps the team’s postseason aspirations alive, while the Mercury are playing for a chance to make it to the WNBA Finals in October.
Perdomo wearing a Mercury jersey before two major Valley sports comebacks may have been a coincidence, but it’s a moment many Arizona fans will remember.
The Diamondbacks play Game 2 of their three-game series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Sept. 24, while the Mercury return to Phoenix for Game 3 of the semifinals against the Lynx on Friday, Sept. 26.
