What a race! What a win for the hometown hero! Daniel Suárez wins in Mexico City, and the crowd is losing their minds. He started dead last and was in a backup car after wrecking in qualifying. None of that mattered as Suárez raced to the front to win The Chilango 150 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
A huge, energized crowd at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez just watched the national hero do the improbable. Daniel Suárez had to get creative. He had to push his car to the limits. There were a couple of risky moves.
Now, he’s doing burnouts in front of the stadium full of adoring fans. The 2016 Xfinity Series champion wins in Mexico City. Now he just has to do it again tomorrow.
WHAT A MOMENT!!!

The effort from Daniel Suárez today is indicative of his NASCAR journey. Everything has come full circle for the Trackhouse Racing driver. From driving an old Volkswagen to the United States, not knowing any English, and becoming a champion in the Xfinity Series. Everything that he has gone through has led to this moment.
From his 2016 championship to his first career win in the Cup Series, Suárez has worn his love for Mexico on his sleeve and represented his home country with pride. His NASCAR journey has never been easy, and today, that journey played out in front of thousands of fans who have supported him along the way.
On the restart to begin Stage 3, Daniel Suárez took Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs three-wide. Through the physicality, he held on to fight through it all. His resolve and calm under pressure showed during that restart. From there, it was his race to lose.
You won’t find a better win this season than this one. He had everything against him. With Taylor Gray beating down his back, Daniel Suárez had to be perfect. He couldn’t open the door for Gray to get his nose to his quarter panels.
This track in Mexico City is fantastic. It produces great racing and today was a fantastic example of that. To have the finish that we had, we are all very lucky to have witnessed it live. Great atmosphere, a beautiful city. As NASCAR attempts to grow its brand in the United States and internationally, these are the kind of races it needs to have more of.
I’m not talking about more road courses, but tracks that produce racing like this. Tracks that produce crowds like this. It will be very interesting to see how The CW ratings look this week. If you didn’t watch that race, you really missed out.
Daniel Suárez just WON in Mexico City. A storybook ending for today. However, Suárez is starting P10 for tomorrow’s Cup Series race. If he manages to sweep the weekend, it will be one of the greatest stories ever in NASCAR and perhaps American sports.
