Caitlin Clark and Diana Taurasi have some history as the star guard began her WNBA career in 2024. As Clark transitioned from being the face of college basketball with the Iowa Hawkeyes to the WNBA, Taurasi expressed some skepticism about how she would fare in the pros.
Now, it appears Taurasi is all-in on "Team Caitlin Clark" as she begins retirement life. Back in Feb., Taurasi announced her retirement from the WNBA after 20 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury.
Clark headlined the guest list during "The Bird and Taurasi" alternate broadcast as UConn topped South Carolina for the national title on Sunday.
During the interview, Taurasi gushed over Clark and the experience of getting to play against the guard during her rookie season in the WNBA.
"It was amazing," Taurasi said on Sunday when co-host Sue Bird asked the former WNBA star what it was like to play against Clark. "You know, I've been following Caitlin's career for so long and been watching her college career just in awe.
With Caitlin Clark on, Diana Taurasi tells her and Sue Bird how “amazing” it was to play her in the #WNBA last season.

"...The first game was in Phoenix, and it felt like the last game that was ever going to be played. There was such anticipation. The crowd was going crazy. All the people that came out to see Caitlin and our teams play each other. It really was an amazing moment," Taurasi added.
"...I got to cross paths with Caitlin, at least for a couple games. To me, that meant a lot. ...I'm like, I want the season to start so I can watch you again."
“It always feels good when there’s a Husky in the building.”
