Wheeling Nailers forward Eli Lieffers is heading overseas to France to join Nantes in France2. Lieffers will have a familiar face overseas as Devin Mayea spent four years with Lieffers at Nipissing University and served as the team’s captain. Charles Farmer, who also spent four years with the Lakers, is also heading to Nantes next season. The 25-year-old joined the Nailers late in the season, playing in 25 games while putting up two goals and two assists for four points. He played in four games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs and had one goal. Lieffers becomes the second player from Wheeling this offseason to take the overseas route, joining Lars Ronde.
Prior to going pro, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native spent the majority of his junior career in the MJHL with the Portage Terriers and Neepawa Natives. In 94 MJHL games, Eli Lieffers would put up 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points. He would lead the natives in all offensive categories during his final year with the team, where he put up 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 51 games. He also appeared in 11 games in the WHL over the course of three seasons with the Kootenay Ice, where he recorded a goal and an assist. Lieffers then made the jump to USports, where he spent four years at Nipissing University. Over the course of his four years with the Lakers, Lieffers would put up six goals and 24 assists for 30 points.
