Earlier today, the Greensboro Gargoyles announced the signing of their most recent skater, Anthony Rinaldi, to an ECHL deal for the upcoming season.

Prior to his professional career, Anthony Rinaldi played collegiately at Union College. During his time at Union College, the forward had 84 points (40 goals and 44 assists) in his 140 games. Rinaldi had a strong sophomore season, scoring a very solid 17 goals in 36 games. After his time at the NCAA was up, Rinaldi went on to make his professional debut in the 2020-2021 season, splitting time between the Kansas City Mavericks and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. In his first professional season, Rinaldi had seven goals and six assists in 48 games between the two organizations. The following season saw him become a nearly point-per-game player with Greenville, having 35 points (15 goals and 20 assists) in 40 games. His well-rounded production even saw him earn a six-game stint in the AHL with the Tucson Roadrunners.
After spending a couple of seasons in North America, Rinaldi decided to fill out a couple of pages in his passport and go play in Europe. Having played in France, Germany, and the EIHL, Rinaldi has spent a lot of time overseas and learned a lot on the ice during his time there. During all three seasons in Europe, the forward saw an increase in his statistical production. Rinaldi’s best season overseas was last year, where he put up an impressive 50-point season (24 goals and 26 assists) in only 39 games. Rinaldi is also no stranger to postseason hockey, having played in the postseason each of the last 3 years.
Per the Gargoyles website, Rinaldi is already a resident of North Carolina and is looking forward to playing closer to home, they quoted him as saying:
“I’m thrilled to join the Greensboro Gargoyles for their inaugural season. Having already moved to North Carolina with my fiancee, the opportunity to play for an organization with such a rich history and a passionate fanbase is truly exciting. I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success and to become part of the Greensboro community. I look forward to meeting the fans and making this season one to remember.”

Once again, Head Coach Scott Burt has placed an emphasis on players who have multiple aspects to their game. Rinaldi has versatility in being both a goal scorer and a playmaker. Stopping both aspects of his offensive game will be tough for opposing teams to stop. So far the front office has assembled a group that they are all proud of and believe in.
“After a strong season over in Europe, Anthony wants to come back to North America, and to where he resides in North Carolina. A couple years back, when he was in Greenville, my team played them and I knew that he was a great player. He was recognized early by our staff as a great addition here in Greensboro. He plays with a lot of pace, energy, and speed that will have the crowd jumping out of their seats. We are excited to add him to our group.”

I think we’ll be seeing a lot of Rinaldi points this season as he has clearly been working on his craft and will be hoping to showcase that to his hometown fans. So far, the Gargoyles have only signed forwards, so I would expect a signing on the blueline soon.
