There seems to be a debate in Cleveland and ESPN Radio is right in the middle of it.
ESPN Radio host Tony Rizzo believes the Cleveland Browns would be foolish to pass on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft on April 24.
Rizzo plead his case to the Browns front office on Monday morning on ESPN Cleveland.
"This line about they like Shedeur Sanders, but they don't like him at 2. Im here to tell you folks. The only people keeping score are those doing mock drafts," Rizzo said. "As a Browns fan, I need a quarterback. I can't go anywhere without a QB. Can you win with that guy?"
Rizzo does not place credence on draft position and draft value. He wants the best available player, regardless where you can get him. If you have to overspend, so be it.
"Then who the hell cares where you take him," Rizzo said. "If you have the best receiver of all time, if you have no body to throw him the football what the hell good is it."
Rizzo was not done yet.
"You are in denial, you need a quarterback," Rizzo said. "You don't want to take him, fine."
An argument can be made that Sanders is the second-best quarterback in the draft. However, to take him with the second pick would be like spending a $500,000 for a Hyundai. It might be good, but not worth the value.
They should take either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter and look for a quarterback in the second round. For all we know, Sanders might still be there if he slides past the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21.
