Since the calendar flipped to June, the Florida Gators have been flat-dominant amid the transfer portal circuit. On the first of the month, Florida received a hard commitment from a three-star interior offensive lineman, G'Nivre Carr.

Carr's willingness to verbally commit to the Gators started a domino effect, with the top SEC program landing nine top recruits via verbal commits in the next 15 days. On Wednesday, Florida made another significant acquisition for the 2026 recruiting class through a method that many once considered unconventional.

Following his decommitment from the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday, four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh will head to Gainesville, according to On3.

Per 247Sports, Bronaugh is a top-ten recruit in Florida. He is also the sixth-ranked cornerback recruit in the nation. The six-foot-one, 166-pound defensive back committed to Nebraska in late November of last year but took an official visit to Florida in May. He also took an official visit to Nebraska earlier this month before decommitting from the Big Ten school and shifting his sights toward Florida.

A two-way star at power Windermere High School in Winter Garden, Florida, Bronaugh tallied 30 tackles, three tackles for loss, six interceptions, four passes defended, two sacks, and a forced fumble in 2024, according to his MaxPreps profile. Of the six interceptions, three were returned for touchdowns.

Bronaugh is also an elite two-sport athlete, having won the Florida 1A championship in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as a sophomore.

The commitment of Bronaugh is a significant milestone for Florida's 2026 recruitment efforts, as he is the first defensive back to join the class. Notably, the Gators have had an emphasis on the offensive line, earning three hard commitments within the trenches thus far regarding the 2026 class.
